EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The joint workshop on allocated zones for aquaculture (AZA) was held in Muscat, Oman in hybrid modality from 19 to 20 March 2023. Over the course of four sessions, the workshop aimed to present the methodologies applied to identify AZA, taking stock of progress made on AZA implementation in the GFCM and RECOFI areas of application and sharing knowledge on best practices and experiences. Additionally, the joint workshop promoted collaboration among member countries towards the sustainability of the sector and considered to further cooperate and enhance capacity building on AZA through pilot study. It was also considered to organize a workshop to identify challenges in establishing AZAs in view of improving the toolbox as well as to link the concept of AZA to the concept of responsible investment in aquaculture
