Jordan increases wheat and barley prices

15/06/2017,

The Government of Jordan in early June announces increased purchasing prices for local wheat and barley. Prices were increased by more than 10 percent to JOD 500 (USD 354) per tonne from last year and JOD 12 million (USD 8.5 million) were allocated for the marketing year. Purchasing will continue until the end of August. The crops purchased will be used primarily for seeding. The measure aims to boost production and support farmers, which suffered a decline in output this year due to poor rains. In Jordan, over 95 percent of the domestic cereal food and feed requirements are satisfied through imports.
