04/10/2019,

On 1 October, the Government started the purchases of key crops, maize and beans, of the main 2019 “spring-summer” season, harvesting of which recently started. The support price for maize is set at MXN 5 610 (USD 278) per tonne, with the limit of 20 tonnes for each purchase, while the price of beans is set at MXN 14 500 (USD 719) per tonne and with a purchase limit of 15 tonnes. For maize crops, purchases will only be made from farmers with land of up to 5 hectares cultivated under rainfed conditions. In the case of beans, the Government will make purchases from farmers with rainfed land of up to 30 hectares and irrigated land of up to 5 hectares. The aim of the measure is to support small farmers and is estimated to reach more than 1.7 million small agricultural producers.
