Belarus introduces a six-month ban on grains and rapeseed

24/09/2021,

On 26 August 2021, the Government of the Republic of Belarus introduced a temporary ban on exports of wheat and meslin, rye, barley, oats, maize, buckwheat, millet, triticale (a hybrid of wheat and rye), rapeseed and other cereals. The ban applies to exports towards all countries, including countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and is valid for six months. The ban does not apply to humanitarian aid provided by the Government of Belarus, goods in transit via Belarus but subjected to the customs procedures of another EAEU member state, and international transshipments that start and end outside the EAEU.

The measure follows a three-month ban on wheat flour and buckwheat exports, introduced by the government on 19 July 2021 (FPMA Food Policy) and an earlier ban on grain exports from 14 April until 21 July 2021 (FPMA Food Policy).
