Serbia introduces temporary ban on wheat grain, wheat flour, maize and sunflower oil exports

10/03/2022,

On 9 March 2022, the president of Serbia announced a temporary ban on the exports of wheat grain and flour, maize and sunflower oil starting from 10 March 2022. The decision was taken to ensure adequate availabilities of these products in the domestic market and to curb price increases amid rising global food prices.

On 28 January 2022, the government had extended by 90 days price ceilings on some basic foodstuffs, including sugar, wheat flour, sunflower oil, pork and milk, initially introduced on 30 November 2021, for 60 days. The decree stipulates that producer, wholesale and retail prices of these products cannot exceed their 15 November 2021 levels.
