Liberia Government adjusts rice prices amid Ebola outbreak

05/09/2014,

In order to curb price hikes following the Ebola outbreak, the Liberian Government has adjusted prices of rice and other essential commodities. The adjusted prices per 25 kilograms rice bag range between USD 14 and USD 20, depending on the rice variety and the areas where it is sold (urban or rural). The Government has also put ceiling prices on gasoline and fuel. Liberia is a net importer of rice and the Government measures to contain the spread of the Ebola, such as closure of ports and borders, as well as restricting free movement of people, are exerting pressure on the prices of transport and essential commodities.
