Bangladesh: Government to procure rice from the Aman crop

Bangladesh will procure 300 000 tonnes of rice from millers from the ongoing Aman crop (April - December), increasing the procurement price to BDT 32 per kilogram (US$ 0.41) from BDT 30 per kilogram (US$ 0.39). The Government had previously increased the estimate of the production cost per kilogram of milled rice by 10 percent to BDT 28 and that of paddy by 6 percent to BDT 18, to reflects mainly higher costs of tilling, fertilizers, irrigation and labour. The procurement of Aman rice will run from 15 November 2014 to 28 February 2015 while the one of Boro rice was closed on 26th of October at 1.06 million tonnes.
