Completion of negotiations for a China-Australia Free Trade Agreement

On 17 November 2014, the conclusion of negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement between Australia and China, covering agriculture, was announced. Included under the terms of the agreement, China’s tariffs of 3 percent on barley imports and 2 percent on those of sorghum and millet would be eliminated. In addition, a 10 percent rate applied to malt and wheat gluten and a 7 percent levy on pulses would be phased out in four years. The agreement will enter into force 30 days, or on a date otherwise agreed, after both parties have completed domestic procedures and exchanged diplomatic notes.
