Zimbabwe removes regulations that fix the procurement price of maize

28/04/2015,

The Government of Zimbabwe removed regulations that fixed the procurement price of maize at USD 390 per tonne in April 2015, lifting price controls measures that were implemented in 2014. This follows the earlier removal of the maize import ban, imposed in 2014, in response to expectations of a reduced 2015 maize harvest and consequently larger import requirements in the 2015/16 marketing year (April/March). As a comparison, the wholesale price of (white) maize in South Africa, the main exporter in the sub region, was USD 220 per tonne in March.
