Mexico restricts imports of poultry products from the United States due to the recent avian flu outbreak.

06/05/2015,

A new outbreak of avian flu in some farms in the United States state of Iowa has resulted in Mexican authorities taking measures restricting imports of poultry products. Mexico is currently the largest buyer of US chicken and Iowa is the largest producer of eggs in the US. The avian flu outbreak has been declared a state of emergency and also the worst ever recorded outbreak in the US. The Secretariat of Agriculture (SAGARPA) aims on preserving precautionary measures until the US health authorities confirm to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) that all centres where the presence of the disease has been recorded so far have been closed.
