The Government of Egypt has procured 750 000 tonnes of the 2015 wheat harvest since the current marketing season which began in mid-April. The Government has allocated 10 billion Egyptian pounds (USD 1.31 Billion) for the purchase of up to 3.7 million tonnes of local wheat between mid-April and mid-July, which represent more than 40 percent of this year’s production forecast at 8.5 million tonnes. The local wheat purchased is aimed at ensuring that the country’s strategic reserves are sufficient until the beginning of October.
