Iran imposes a duty on wheat and barley imports

28/07/2015,

The Government of Iran has imposed a one year import duty on wheat, as well as an import duty on barley until September 2015. The wheat duty is set at 1.5 million Rials (USD 51) per tonne thus making imported wheat more expensive than the price Iranian farmers get from the Government in its state purchasing programme. The measure aims to protect Iranian farmers from cheap imports and to prevent imported grain from being re-sold to the Government at higher prices under the country's scheme of state purchases from farmers at guaranteed prices.
