India plans to introduce duty on wheat imports

10/08/2015,

The Government of India plans to introduce a 10 percent duty on wheat imports as a measure to curb world market purchases and encourage consumption of the ample stocks in the country, which are held by the Food Corporation of India (FCI), the nodal agency for procurement and distribution of food grains. Lower global prices and high-quality grains are making wheat imports more attractive than domestic wheat to flour millers and private traders.
