Under a Government to Government deal, China has agreed to buy 1 million tonnes of rice from Thailand before the end of 2015. China will buy Thai 5 percent broken rice, Thai jasmine rice, Thai hom Mali rice. Negotiations for the sale of an additional 1 million tonnes of rice between china and Thailand are set to begin in September 2015. This agreement follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed by China in December 2014 to buy 2 million tonnes of rice in 2015. Thailand benefits from this measure in its ongoing stock release efforts. In early July 2015 the Government of Thailand sold 1.148 million tonnes of rice and still held more than 14 million tonnes of rice in stocks which it plans to release in 2015 and 2016.
