In mid-August 2015, Russia announced that it will plans to add new countries to its Western food import ban. The measure is in response to countries that have supported the European Union's sanctions against Russia to continue the pressure on resolving the Ukraine crisis. The measure also follows a 6 month extension (valid until end of January 2016) of a food import ban from Western countries imposed in August 2014 that was valid until August 2015.
