The Government resumed the minimum support price for paddy rice after 18 years. The minimum price of mota dhan, an improved variety of paddy, was fixed at NPR 20 700 (USD 188) per tonne, while for common (medium-size) paddy it was set at NPR 22 3000 (USD 203) per tonne. Under the scheme, if market prices of paddy go below the minimum support price, the Government will purchase paddy from the farmers at the above fixed rates. The measure aims to support farmers.
