Bangladesh to procure rice from the Aman crop

The Government announced it will procure 300 000 tonnes of rice from millers from the ongoing Aman crop (April - December), increasing the procurement price to BDT 33 (USD 0.41) per kilogram from BDT 31 per kilogram (USD 0.38) a year ago. The procurement of Aman rice, which represents an average 40 percent of the annual output, will start on 1 December and would continue until 15 March, while the one of Boro was closed on 31 October at 1.02 million tonnes of rice in milled terms. The measure aims at boosting state reserves and provide price incentive to farmers.
