Brazil releases rice from state reserves

18/01/2017,

The National Food Supply Agency (CONAB) of Brazil will offer 7 100 tonnes of rice paddy for sale through an auction on January 19, the first one in 2017. The latest series of auctions of rice were held in October last year (FPMA Food Policies) aimed to boost availabilities of paddy in the market and ease prices, which were at high levels, due to tight domestic availabilities. The measure is part of CONAB’s Minimum Guaranteed Price Policy (PGPM) to stockpile or sell strategic reserves of widely used food commodities in an effort to support farmers or ease market supply concerns.
