Kenya allows duty-free imports of yellow maize

20/02/2017,

The Government authorized duty-free imports of 5 million 90 kg bags of non-GM yellow maize for feed over the next three to four months. Yellow maize has not been imported by the country since 2011, and the measure aims to ease demand on white maize and ease prices, which have increased since January on account of the 2016 reduced harvests, affected by severe dry weather. Drought also hit most pastoral areas and prices of livestock declined in recent months as animal body conditions deteriorated (FPMA Domestic Price Warning).
