The Government plans to procure 800 000 tonnes of rice and 700 000 tonnes of paddy from the ongoing Boro crop (November-May) at BDT 34 (USD 0.41) per kg and BDT 24 (USD 0.29) per kg respectively. Last year 700 000 tonnes of rice at BDT 32 per kg and 600 000 tonnes of paddy at BDT 23 per kg were purchased. The procurement of Boro rice will be conducted from 2 May to 31 August. Similarly, the Government is set to procure 100 000 tonnes of wheat at BDT 28 per kg from 18 April to 30 June. The programme aims to sustain agricultural production and farmers’ incomes.
