Yerevan, Armenia - June 28, 2024 – In a significant stride towards combating soil degradation and enhancing agricultural sustainability, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and its Global Soil Partnership (GSP), have launched the Recarbonization of Agricultural Soils (RECSOIL) initiative in Armenia.
In a move towards more sustainable and regenerative agriculture in Mozambique, the FAO office, backed by the Global Soil Partnership (GSP), has launched an inspiring initiative to build farmers’ capacity to steward their soil, ensuring long-term productivity and environmental health. The training, which took place as part of the Organization's projects in the country PROMOVE Agribiz, funded by the European Union, and PRODAI, funded by the Italian Cooperation Agency, was held under FAO's Global Soil Doctor Programme (GSDP).
From 19 to 21 May 2024, the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) marked its centennial in Florence with three days of conferences, keynotes and parallel sessions addressing the needs of civil society in sectors such as agriculture, forestry, environment, urban planning, energy, education, and more.
The Twelfth Plenary Assembly of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) took place at FAO headquarters from 3 to 5 June 2024, bringing together over 900 participants from academia, NGOs, farmers' associations, civil society organizations, and other UN agencies. This event aimed to exchange knowledge and make crucial decisions to define the global soil agenda.
Members of the Zambia Soil Laboratory Network (ZASOLAN) attended a 5-day training workshop designed to enhance the analytical capacities and proficiency in soil analysis techniques of soil testing laboratories across Zambia. Representatives from 12 soil testing laboratories participated in the event, held from the 6th to the 10th of May in Kabwe district, central province. The workshop provided a platform for the ZASOLAN laboratories to interact with each other while building their capacity in soil analysis and promoting harmonization processes of soil analysis at the national level.
