On 5 December 2023, during the World Soil Day celebration to be held in Chachoengsao Province, Thailand, the Soil and Fertilizer Society of Thailand will be presented with a USD 15 000 check and a medal by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who serves as FAO's Goodwill Ambassador. The SFST is a scholastic organization that brings together soil experts from government organizations, universities, the private sector, and national institutions with the goal of building technical expertise, knowledge of soil science, and advancing research in soil and fertilizer management. The Society champions innovations and technology in soil science that may improve livelihoods and contribute to agricultural development in Thailand.

To celebrate World Soil Day 2022, a Thai World Soil Day committee was initiated and was comprised of a wide variety of stakeholders who promoted World Soil Day under a campaign entitled “Spirit of soil, spirit of partnership.” SFST played a significant role in the coordination of this campaign, which brought the message of soils’ importance in food production to the public, young people, and as many stakeholders as possible. SFST and its members hosted over 500 events, reaching over 150,000 people in person and over 11 million individuals through televised and radio programming. Among the many varied events coordinated with the Thai World Soil Day committee, SFST was particularly successful in engaging farmers. Over 300 fieldwork activities were conducted that demonstrated techniques such as mulching, check dam construction, and other activities intended to revive the earth. Furthermore, SFST and collaborating members engaged with farmers through 250 activities in which discussions were held regarding the significance of soil in ensuring food security, human nutrition, and well-being. Another remarkable feat of SFST during the World Soil Day campaign in 2022 was the engagement of over 11 million people across Thailand, including young people and children. The general public tuned into the widespread social-media based and televised events that raised awareness of the importance of soil to human health and secure food production. Through employing an array of mediums such as art exhibits and performances, social media, cultural events, lectures, farmer workshops, games and quizzes, conferences, workshops, and more, SFST ran a thriving World Soil Day campaign in 2022. This outreach impacted a wide variety of stakeholders and showcased the importance of soils for food security and nutrition.

Launched in 2018, the King Bhumibol World Soil Day Award acknowledges individuals or institutions that raise public awareness on soils by organising successful and influential World Soil Day celebrations. The award, sponsored by the Kingdom of Thailand, is named after King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand for his lifelong commitment to raising awareness on the importance of sustainable soil management and rehabilitation for food security, poverty alleviation and more. It consists of a USD 15,000 check and medal. Former winners of the King Bhumibol World Soil Day Award include Practical Action in Bangladesh in 2018, the Costa Rican Soil Science Society (AACS) in 2019, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Indian Institute of Soil Science (ICAR-IISS) in 2020, the Nigerian Institute of Soil Science (NISS) in 2021, and the Institute of Geology, National Autonomous University of Mexico (IGI-UNAM) in 2022.
