A two-day regional event on sustainable soil management in the Near East and North Africa region will be held March 7-8, 2023 in Muscat, Oman. During the first day a declaration reaffirming the importance of sustainable soil management as well as soil health for the NENA region will be presented for endorsement. During the second day the regional NENA Soil Partnership meeting will be held partially in person for the first time since the pandemic. During this meeting, countries will be invited to review the progress made towards sustainable soil management in the region and to propose their action plan for 2030.

World Soil Day is a unique day that celebrates soils around the globe. This year, thanks to the University programme for interdisciplinary soil studies (PUEIS) of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), a one-day celebration was held on-line on 7 December 2022. PUEIS, the national promoter of the Global Soil Doctors Programme in Mexico was successful in bringing together a group of farmers representing some of the leading Soil Doctors in the country. They enthusiastically joined the discussion and shared their experiences with the programme, challenges encountered, lessons learned, and their expectations for the coming months.

On 5 December 2022, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia (MEPA) organized a day-long event to mark World Soil Day. 

World Soil Day - 5 December - has become an important annual appointment worldwide and one of the most celebrated days of the United Nations. This year, Djibouti did not miss the opportunity to celebrate this important natural resource and organized, through the Institute of Life Sciences of the Centre d'Étude et de Recherche de Djibouti (CERD), a week-long celebration from 11 to 14 December 2022 in Djibouti City.

Healthy soils are the basis for food production, but soil use is often confronted with complex challenges and conflicting interests and is under great stress. Worldwide, populations are growing rapidly and soils are becoming increasingly degraded. In the European Alpine region, soils suitable for agriculture are limited and are often located in areas where tourism, housing and food production compete for land use. At the same time, climate change and soil degradation pose an increasing risk to food production.
