The Proposal

In Ecuador, the Hand-in-Hand Initiative will focus on two attractive investment opportunities for the 2024 Investment Forum, having been prioritized for their potential to expand the supply of high-growth and sustainable exportable products: 

  • Exports of dairy products.
  • Agro-exports of organic products.

Both investment opportunities will be oriented around four approaches: (i) boosting sustainable production, (ii) strengthening traceability systems to better control product quality, (iii) promoting increase production of added-value products, and (iv) expanding market access. The proposals are aligned with Ecuador’s 2024-2025 National Development Plan, which emphasizes the need for stronger and more dynamic relationships with commercial partners and investors. The Plan also seeks to drive sustainable productivity increases through expansion of the formal labor market, creating opportunities for decent work along its strategic value chains.

Dairy Products

Sustainable Production
Expand the inclusion of dairy producers in sustainable models, adopting regenerative practices, silvopastoral systems, carbon neutrality, and climate-smart livestock farming through development programs focused on capacity building and sustainability.

Traceability
Develop and implement advanced traceability systems throughout the value chain to ensure quality, improve transparency, and reduce informality, enhancing consumer trust and satisfaction.

Added Value
Establish funding for technological innovation and the creation of new value-added dairy products, including process improvements and advanced technologies to increase global market competitiveness.

Access to Markets
Promote the creation and strengthening of cooperatives that integrate all value chain actors, from producers to industries, to meet quality standards, increase production capacity, and access international and national markets with high value-added products. 

Institutional Structure
Establish the Ecuador Dairy Institute as a central entity to coordinate and promote sector development, responsible for research, training, and technical support. Strengthen the Ecuador Dairy Observatory to provide accurate and updated data, facilitate decision-making, and guide public policies towards sustainable sector growth.

Organic Agro-Exports

Sustainable Production
Maintain the sustainability of organic production systems and promote the application of resilient agricultural practices by building producers' capacities.

Traceability
  • Implement advanced management and traceability systems to produce banana, coffee, cocoa, quinoa, vanilla, and guayusa, with the aim of replicating and expanding these systems.
  • Establish three certified national laboratories (one per region: Coast, Highlands, Amazon).
Added Value
Promote the creation of cooperative enterprises capable of transforming organic products and adding value for export purposes, focusing on banana, coffee, cocoa, quinoa, vanilla, and guayusa (industrialization).

Access to Markets
Open new international markets for value-added organic products, transitioning from primary exports to value-added exports.
