Consultation nationale CCLME au Senegal
18/03/2022

The CCLME Regional Coordination Unit organised the project's First National Stakeholder Consultation on 23rd and 24th February 2022, bringing together key stakeholders from the fisheries and environmental sectors. The main objective of this meeting was to debate and formulate recommendations for the establishment of a Multisectoral Consortium and Partnership Agreement to promote the sustainable development of marine and coastal areas within the framework of the CCLME Strategic Action Plan (SAP).

This national consultation was an opportunity for fruitful exchange and identification of the challenges facing Senegal's marine and coastal areas. The discussions revealed gaps in terms of coordination, harmonisation and information sharing between the various structures and organisations working in the field of fisheries and the environment.

The proposal to create a multi-sector consortium and partnership agreements was well received and aroused great interest among the participants. The recommendations put forward, based on practical experience, stressed the importance of visibility of results, stakeholder participation, involvement of women, raising awareness of pollution and coordination of activities.

The stakeholders expressed their willingness to support the CCLME in achieving its objectives, thereby demonstrating their commitment to the protection and sustainable management of Senegal's marine and coastal areas.

In conclusion, this National Consultation laid the foundations for strengthened collaboration and a solid partnership between the key players for the protection and preservation of Senegal's precious marine and coastal ecosystems. The recommendations arising from this meeting will undoubtedly help to guide future actions and achieve the ambitious objectives of the CCLME's Strategic Action Plan.
