This report focuses specifically on discussions between BirdLife South Africa staff representing the Common Oceans project, and participants at the Brazil National Awareness Workshop (NAW), held 14-15 December 2017 in Cabo Frio, Brazil. The outcomes presented here are the result of discussions conducted in parallel with the general session of the NAW; a full Workshop Report is available elsewhere, this report covers discussions relating to the data availability and proposed analytical approaches by Brazilian researchers in support of the goals of the Seabird Bycatch Assessment (SBA).

This document summarizes the methods and results of a survey designed to estimate angler expenditures and willingness-to-pay (WTP) for billfish recreational fishing in the Caribbean. The survey conducted in 2017 found that the value of billfish recreational fishing and expenditures by recreational fishers are very high in the region and that there is the potential to raise conservation funds from this resource user group.
