This brief aims to help farmer leaders, farmer organizations and facilitators working with smallholders to achieve a correct understanding of the legal and operational aspects of contract
farming. It is based on information extracted from the Legal Guide on Contract Farming (UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD, 2015), and from field experience in the implementation of contract farming
projects by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
