The proposed project was designed to be implemented in Badakhshan and Kandahar provinces which fell under high priority areas, and project activities were in line with revised Humanitarian Response Plan thematic priorities of targeting drought affected people. By protecting the livelihoods of vulnerable farming households, the project seeked to contribute to reduce forced displacements because of the drought, averting deterioration of food and nutrition insecurity and minimizing the risks of conflicts over natural resources.

Specifically, the project planned two main activities:

  • protect the livelihood of 2 400 drought-affected farming households through the provision of certified wheat seed and fertilizers (diammonium phosphate and urea) for improved wheat production; and
  • enhance resilience through trainings on good agricultural practices in wheat cultivation and disaster risk reduction principles.
