Activities

FAO intervened to safeguard livelihoods of pastoral and agro-pastoral communities. The implemented interventions included the provision of animal concentrate feed, animal health (treatment) services, commercial destocking, and unconditional cash transfer, specifically:

  • provision of emergency livestock feed and treatment of animals to i) increase availability of milk for consumption by families, especially children, (ii) protect core breeding stock and milking animals and (iii) accelerate recovery;
  • commercial destocking, to generate cash for beneficiary households and reduce pressure on the limited available pasture; and
  • unconditional cash transfers, to allow households to purchase other food and non-food items.
