Beneficiaries | 14 500 |
Activities |
This project distributed internationally procured class A potato seeds to seed multipliers, and provided local procurement and distribution of class B potato seeds to drought affected small potato farmers. The main outputs of the project were an increased multiplication of more high quality potato seeds by the multipliers in 2001 and an increased planting and growing of potatoes during the spring 2001 season.
|
Impact | The assistance contributed to the mitigation of the impact of the drought on subsistence farmers in the most affected areas of the country. In addition, some agricultural advice provided to farmers over the course of the project aimed to improve the cultivation of potatoes. Priority was given to the provision of potato seeds to the Upland areas since high yields can be expected. |
