Activities

The overall objective of the project was to support 12 000 vulnerable farmers affected by high food prices and the drought crisis through the provision of quality wheat seed for the spring and autumn 2009 planting seasons. The expected project outcomes were:

  • immediate resumption of wheat planting by 12 000 vulnerable, drought-affected farming families;
  • increased crop production, resulting in enhanced food security and reduced dependence on food aid; and
  • raised awareness of the benefits of using high-yielding wheat seed varieties and dissemination of improved wheat seed among farmers in the project districts for subsequent cropping seasons.
