Objective / Goal

The objective of the project was to strengthen the effectiveness of agriculture and livelihoods related responses to La Niña of its members through enhanced leadership, better information dissemination, improved coordination, more timely and effective response and strengthening the capacity of Members to perform more effectively.

The project’s specific objectives were to:

  • improve the coordination of agriculture and livelihoods interventions for drought response at the federal level and in some of the key regions of Ethiopia; and
  • identify risk management options, challenges, warning information coordination, and enhance the capacity of public and private stakeholders for long-term disaster management action in the agriculture sector.
Activities

FAO-Ethiopia’s project work is informed by the agency’s global mandate, which is to alleviate poverty and hunger by ensuring better agriculture development, food security and good nutrition for all. At the country level, FAO-Ethiopia operates within its 2012-2015 Country Programme Framework (CPF), which was launched in January 2012.

The CPF confirms FAO’s commitment to the following improved outcomes:

  • crop production, productivity and marketing;
  • livestock production and productivity;
  • sustainable land and integrated watershed management;
  • smallholder adaptation to climate change;
  • institutional and technical capacities of Government and communities in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and resilience building; and
  • integration of agriculture production and food-based nutrition.
