Objective / Goal

The overall objective of the project is to assist at-risk farmers to strengthen their food security situation, with a special focus on those living in remote area.

The specific objective is to help marginalized rural Afghan families in the Northern Provinces of Faryab and Saripul alleviate the food shortage caused by the drought by facilitating their access to agricultural inputs.

Activities

The objective was achieved by facilitating their access to agricultural inputs, through the provision of certified wheat seed varieties, which were to be distributed along with diammonium phosphate and urea fertilizers purchased through projects funded by other donors.

The following main activities were undertaken:

  • procurement of inputs;
  • storage of inputs;
  • selection of partners (NGOs and others) and joint-identification of beneficiaries and their location;
  • transport of inputs to IP district warehouses;
  • distribution of inputs, provision of technical assistance to IPs and monitoring of input;
  • distribution and crop performance; and
  • impact evaluation and elaboration of further plans for assistance.
