Objective / Goal The project’s objective is to support to vulnerable populations affected by high food price and drought crisis through the provision of quality wheat seed and fertilizer for the autumn 2008 and spring 2009 seasons in the northern and eastern region of Afghanistan.

Activities The main activities of the project consisted of the procurement and distribution of inputs. The project procured 70 tonnes each of wheat seed, diammonium phosphate (DAP) and urea fertilizers for the spring 2009 planting season in Samangan province. An additional 573 tonnes each of wheat seed, DAP and urea fertilizers were procured for the autumn 2009 planting season in Faryab and Jawzjan provinces. Each beneficiary household received a package of wheat seed, di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) and urea fertilizers (50 kg each) for the cultivation of 2 jeribs (0.4 ha) of irrigated land.
