Objective / Goal The project’s objective is to improve the food security of some 20 000 vulnerable rural households in selected areas of Afghanistan affected by the drought through the provision of improved wheat seed and fertilizers for the autumn 2006 and spring 2007 planting seasons.

Activities

This project distributed 1 000 tonnes of quality declared autumn and spring wheat seed together with 1 000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate and 1 000 tonnes of urea fertilizers to 20 000 farming families.

Activities carried out included: 

  • identification and selection of grassroots implementing parners; 
  • identification of target areas and beneficiaries;
  • definition of the technical specifications of the inputs to be supplied;
  • procurement of seeds and fertilizer;
  • quality-control of inputs;
  • transportation and storage of inputs;
  • distribution.
