Activities

The proposed project supported resilience building activities and map out all the other activities carried out by other development partners in the country to coordinate with the Support to Higher Education in ASEAN Region (SHARE) resilience clusters. The proposal was developed within the framework the new strategy developed by European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) to enhance the resilience of targeted vulnerable households and communities through an integrated multi-year, multi-agency and multi-sector approach. It was also in line with FAO's strategy of increasing the resilience of people and their livelihood with respect to disasters and crises as fundamental approach to achieve food and nutrition security.

FAO engaged directly with European Union (EU) resilience programming partners and indirectly with other disaster risk reduction partners in the country assisting most vulnerable (agro) pastoral communities as well as small holder farmers in support of community and local government led resilience building actions. FAO organized joint field mission with NGO partner's to perform monitoring and provide technical back stopping in addition to need based training programs. FAO was also involved in livelihood saving interventions including drought resilient crop, animal feed and animal health interventions.

FAO linked the ECHO operation in the country to various platforms, including Disaster Risk Management-Agriculture Task Force (DRM-ATF), at federal and regional levels.

The proposed action focused on collection and dissemination of technical information, standards and evidence-based good practice models to inform interventions focused on resilience building. Coordination mechanisms within the EU clusters were strengthened and consolidated. Rural livelihoods were strengthened through crop and livestock interventions.
