Day 4 onboard: Enjoying impressive catches
It’s the fourth day on board and everyone is – despite tough schedules that don’t allow for lots of rest - still full of energy.
We’re especially lucky to have no reported case of sea sickness (an occupational hazard for this type of marine research), so we’re especially pleased to see that everything seems to be going according to plan.
We just completed sampling our 13th trawl only 3 days after we rejoined the survey grid.
This makes it 4 trawls per day on average.
Luckily, all of our trawls contained at least one or more of our target species.
Our trawl catches are so diverse, most them recording no less than 10 species, while two trawls recorded the highest diversity by a staggering 18 species.
We are impressed to see such diversity during our work off the coast of Mauritania.
Trawl total catch weights are also highly variable ranging from 2000 kg to a mere 5.63 kg.
Today we experienced a minor mechanical problem which halted our progress for two hours, this has however been resolved and we are back on course.
