The book "The RV Dr Fridtjof Nansen in the Western Indian Ocean - Voyages of marine research and capacity development'' was launched on the occasion of the WIOMSA 10th Scientific Symposium in Dar-es-Salaam in November 2017. The book highlights the enduring impacts of the Nansen Programme on fisheries and capacity development in the Western Indian Ocean and provides a rare glimpse into the practical realities of doing research at sea and shows how the outcomes can contribute to fisheries management. It is written for a broad audience, with technical information provided in supplements. Chapters were written by eminent marine scientists from the region, and by Norwegian scientists with long experience of Nansen surveys.
