FAO is organizing an event in Brussels on progress achieved by the global aquatic value chain development initiative FISH4ACP in making fisheries and aquaculture value chains more productive and sustainable.

Firsthand accounts and a captivating photo exhibit will provide insights in a recent visit to a community of oyster harvesters in Senegal, part of a field trip organized by the Council of the EU under the Belgian Presidency in May.

The event will also be an opportunity to promote the upcoming Blue Food Forum in September 2024 in Tanzania, exploring how aquatic value chains can help transform food systems and contribute to feed a growing world population while keeping the planet healthy.

FISH4ACP is an initiative of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) implemented by FAO with funding from the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

FISH4ACP seeks to enhance the productivity and competitiveness of twelve fisheries and aquaculture value chains in twelve OACPS member countries, making sure that economic improvements go hand in hand with environmental sustainability and social inclusiveness.

It will pay special attention to small and medium-sized businesses, because of their potential to deliver economic and social benefits, particularly for women and youth.
