The restoration of forests and other key ecosystems is a major pathway to address the concurrent climate and biodiversity crises and also towards meeting a wide range of global development goals and national priorities, but the stakes are high and financial resources are limited.

To help identify and prioritize promising, cost-effective restoration locations, FAO, in collaboration with the Spatial Informatics Group, SilvaCarbon, NASA SERVIR and researchers at Peking University and Duke University, have developed an application in the Open Foris SEPAL that combines ecological data on forest restoration with socio-economic data on its benefits, costs and risks.

The tool is intended to support the preparation of strategic restoration plans for a given region by providing improved, spatially explicit information on restoration suitability and impacts, which are most relevant to user’s restoration objectives.

As a follow up to the soft launch of the se.plan tool on 3 June during the GLF Africa, this webinar provides a further opportunity for restoration stakeholders to get an in-depth look at the tool’s functionalities and also to share any feedback and needs for future application of the tool in different context and landscapes.
