Workshop: Planning and Monitoring Forest and Landscape Restoration
From 03/04/2023 to 07/04/2023
Location: Nadi, Fiji
The Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism will participate in the workshop "Planning and monitoring forest and landscape restoration" from 3–7 April 2023 in Nadi, Fiji.
This workshop occurs as part of the national component for Fiji of the project funded by the International Climate Initiative, “The Paris Agreement in Action: upscaling forest and landscape restoration to achieve nationally determined contributions”. It will cover a variety of monitoring topics, including the cost-effective spatial planning of areas of intervention and the selection of relevant indicators to the creation of maps based on sample data. Furthermore, the following tools will be presented to participants:
- System for Earth observation data access, Processing and Analysis for Land monitoring (SEPAL), which allows users to process satellite data efficiently and tailor their products for local needs;
- Se.plan, a spatially explicit decision-support tool to assist the identification of locations where the benefits of forest restoration are high;
- Assessment, Understanding and Reporting Of Restoration Actions (AURORA), a decision-support tool jointly developed by FAO and WRI to help stakeholders identify indicators to monitor progress;
- Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring (FERM) Registry, the official monitoring and reporting platform of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration; and
- Collect Earth, which enables land use data collection through Google Earth in order to establish the reference levels and to monitor the dynamics of land use change with high-resolution satellite imagery.
