Land & Carbon Lab’s 2023 Summit: Monitoring Land, Mobilizing Action

The Forest and Landscape Restoration Mechanism (FLRM) of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will be present at the Land & Carbon Lab’s 2023 Summit "Monitoring Land, Mobilizing Action" from 27 to 29 June 2023 in Brussels, Belgium.

Over 500 participants will attend the 2023 Summit, connecting scientists of the geospatial data revolution with decisionmakers and implementers of land management with the aim to achieve the nature and climate goals of this decade.

A spotlight presentation on 29 June is to be led by Christophe Besacier, Senior Forestry Officer of the FLRM, for which he will present the following items for the Task Force on Best Practices of the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration: 

  • updates on the Standards of practice to guide ecosystem restoration (summary report available here);
  • the Capacity, Knowledge and Learning Action Plan for the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration; and 
  • the Framework for Ecosystem Restoration Monitoring Registry for the collection of good practices to allow restoration practitioners to submit their best restoration practices.

In addition, he will provide a presentation for the panel "Monitoring Landscape Policy and Public Incentives for Adaptive Management, Effectiveness, and Impacts" on 28 June, 11:00-12:30 UTC+2, to set the stage on global movements and the importance of policy in forest and landscape restoration. Moreover, Besacier will attend the closed session “How to report Initiative 20x20 progress of restoration in LAC?” on 26 June, 16:00-18:00 UTC+2.
