Promoting FLR in Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Siem Reap

Location: Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces, Siem Reap

In collaboration with the Forestry Administration, the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), it will be organized the workshop for Promoting the Forest Landscape Restoration in Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Siem Reap provinces in Siem Reap under the framework of FAO Global Umbrella of  Forest Landscape Restoration Mechanism.

The objective of the workshop is to support Cambodia’s efforts to restore degraded and deforested landscapes in the provinces of Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear, and Siem Reap by introducing the concept of FLR and by developing a restoration planning roadmap for Cambodia using the ROAM. The workshop will:

  • Improve participants’ understanding on drivers of deforestation and degradation in Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear and Siem Reap;
  • Take stock of Kampong Thom, Preah VIhear and Siem Reap provinces’ restoration goals;
  • Take stock of successful restoration initiatives, e.g. conservation agriculture, reforestation, plantations and species selection, etc.;
  • Introduce and enhance understanding of the FLR approach and discuss how it can support Cambodia’s restoration and sustainable development goals;
  • Introduce ROAM and its key components through interactive sessions and discussions;
  • Identify the key objectives for restoration activities in the target provinces;
  • Introduce, and receive feedback on initial restoration potential maps;
  • Develop a restoration action plan (FLR roadmap) for the target provinces;
  • Identify stakeholders for restoration planning.
