Applied Training on Forest Landscape Restoration: Online Restoration "Boot Camp" in Africa

15/09/2020

Two “Restoration Boot Camp” online courses (in English and French) for selected audiences from 13 African countries will be launched on 21 September 2020 by the Environmental Leadership & Training Initiative at Yale University under The Restoration Initiative and IKI project.

These online courses include in-depth educational materials, access to expert feedback and guided exercises to support the development of ecologically, socially and economically realistic plans, which are the primary output of the training program.

The courses will be structured around six modules:

  1. Introduction to ecology, disturbance, and regeneration potential;
  2. Socio-cultural and political aspects of restoration;
  3. Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR) practices and strategies;
  4. Integrating FLR and production activities;
  5. Monitoring & Evaluation of restoration projects;
  6. Financing for scaling up of FLR.

These thematic modules will include presentations, readings, case studies, live videoconference discussions with experts, peer-to-peer exchanges, assignments and a final project. Through this course, participants will have improved knowledge and capacity to contribute towards enhanced FLR actions in their countries and as such potentially contribute to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030).
