On the way to restore Guatemala’s degraded lands: Creating governance conditions

Sound governance will drive Guatemala’s forest and landscape restoration.

This article describes the set-up of a National Strategy for Forest Landscape Restoration which aims to restore 1.2 million ha of degraded land by 2045. Initial findings show that the Strategy’s success is due to several factors: an multi-stakeholder platform for dialogue, a legal framework to support field restoration work, and implementation at local, regional and national levels.
