The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in collaboration with the Forest Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-FMB) and with funding from the International Climate Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB), is implementing the project entitled “Paris Agreement in Action: Upscaling Forest and Landscape Restoration to Achieve Nationally Determined Contributions” (the “Paris Agreement Project”). This multicountry project supports the effective implementation of the Bonn Challenge through several regional initiatives. It aims to scale up forest and landscape and restoration (FLR) efforts and contribute to several nationally determined contributions. Three regions with diverse landscapes and high potential for increasing both forest carbon stocks and the provision of non-carbon benefits through large scale FLR programmes were targeted, one of which is the Pacific islands and the Philippines. 

In the Philippines, the project focused on: 

• supporting the implementation of the Philippine National FLR Action Plan;  
• supporting two community-based forest management organizations in the Bataan Watershed with participatory planning and assisted natural regeneration.  

The Forest Management Bureau, in collaboration with FAO, conducted a final project implementation review and concluding seminar in Manila, on 19 and 20 March 2024, to discuss the project implementation and outputs, to document key innovations and lessons learned from the project implementation and activities and budget allocations based on the project commitments. Further, the workshop was an opportunity to identify new initiatives that could be pursued after the project ends.
