The seafood industry is becoming increasingly globalized. Between one third and 40% of all fish produced is now traded internationally, making fish and fisheries products one of the most traded food commodities in the world.
This growth has important implications for those in developing regions, as much of what is consumed in the major developed markets is produced and processed in developing countries before being exported. In this video, Dr. Audun Lem, Deputy Director of the FAO Policy and Economics Division, gives an overview of the role of fish trade in today’s global markets.
