Fritos verdes - Tostones

Ingredients

Steps
1. Peel and slice the plantains into 1-inch diagonal pieces.
2. Mix the water with salt and soak the slices in refrigerator for at least 30 mn.
3. Drain and pat dry with paper towels.
4. Fry on both sides in 1-inch of medium-hot oil for 2 mn, or until they turn a slightly bright yellow colour.
5. Remove the slices from the pan and place on paper towels. Press each one down softly until somewhat flattened, using for this purpose a small plate, or the bottom of a heavy jar.
6. Fry the pressed slices again until they turn a light golden color and are crispy, for about 5 mn.
7. Serve immediately.
