SLM Adoption : Activities have focused on supporting SLM demonstrations and learning by Farmer Field School (FFS) groups and communities in applying SLM technologies  across target micro-watersheds in 21 target districts with support of elected officials, service providers (field staff), district agriculture offices- local administration, technical services.

Capacity and knowledge for SLM promotion : Training (TOT) and support for developing understanding and adaptive management capacity by FFS, catchment committees, service providers through SLM planning (seasonal), participatory learning and monitoring (impact), soil and agro-ecosystems analysis, SLM documentation (techniques, approaches), informed decision (farm and catchment management; and networking for sharing experiences and sustainable process. Hydrological monitoring protocol developed and FFS members and staff in relevant institutions (IGEBU, REMA) trained in monitoring /analysis of hydrology + rainfall data to demonstrate SLM /catchment management impacts (water quality, quantity, flow regime, sediment loss).

Enabling policy, planning and legislative conditions to support SLM : Training on land/ natural resources conflicts (districts staff, local authorities/leaders, FFS master trainers) to enhance knowledge and capacity for participatory conflict resolution (conflicts that drive unsustainable land use) and actions to provide conditions for SLM adoption (regulations, policy, planning). Catchment committees put in place and guided in preparation of land use plans and establishment of by-laws to promote and sustain SLM practices and environmental protection (river bank protection, woodlot protection, pasture management and fire control, etc.)

Transboundary coordination, information sharing, monitoring and evaluation : Findings of cross-border studies to assess impacts of livestock and fire management on land degradation and biodiversity translated into policy briefs and recommendations for relevant national institutions to support SLM decision making. Project teams and partner institutions shared information and participated in regional SC meetings and workshops for informed decision making (SLM strategy, regional workplan and budget, monitoring progress and impacts). Exchange visits for SLM experience sharing and motivation by FFS members + facilitators, micro-catchment committee chairs, project management, policy makers-SC members.
