Knowing water better: towards fairer and more sustainable access to natural resources - KnoWat

Final project workshop - Rwanda

Kigali and online - Rwanda, 20/09/2022 - 21/09/2022

The final project workshop in Rwanda will take place on Wednesday 21 September 2022 from 10.30 to 13:30 CET in a hybrid format. Representatives from the Rwandan government, academia and civil society as well as the German Embassy in Rwanda will take part.

During the workshop, the project’s actions and results will be presented and discussed, starting from 12.30 a.m. CET onwards. At the end of the workshop, the focus will be on the next steps: how to take the lessons learnt, best practices and results forward.

In Rwanda, the KnoWat project focused on three key issues:

1) Improving water tenure: the project reviewed the water resource management framework and formulated recommendations to address the increased competition on water resources in the country to ensure equitable access to them.

2) Enhance water management capacities at the national level: the project worked to improve the capacities of the technical staff in water and agricultural sector institutions on data management for water resources assessment.

3) Strengthen water management capacities in the field: the project worked with farmers in the Yanze catchment to increase their capacities in water management and better access to water through solar pumps, and to diversify their sources of income such as aquaculture.
